Salt Water

Entering the Nevada Desert - taken between Sparks and Derby.

Some more of the blistering desert - between Derby and Wadsworth.

Crossing the salt beds betwen Wadsworth and Lovelock. The road shown here is part of the old Central Pacific Railroad grade. Note where they forgot to fill in between the ties. An eight mile an hour average is good for this road. The sign says "Water 250 feet" but the water was so salty that it was not good to drink. This is part of the sixty mile stretch where we did not see a fresh water spring. The Pony Express had a station not far from this spot and the abandoned Leet Salt Works was also near.
