Ruts

Crossing the mud flats of Carson Sink. These flats are covered with about two feet of water in the winter. When it rains it is necessary to stay on the rough railroad grade. The Carson Sink is between Wadsworth and Lovelock.

Another view of Nevada scenery. This was taken between Cosgrave and Winnemucca. Note the train in the background,- the long dark streak on the left side of the picture.
A few ruts between Battle Mountain and Beowawe, Nevada. It was necessary to get into low gear over most of these ruts. Observe how the people have tried to find a smoother place by driving out into the sage brush and breaking a new road.
